The city spends alot of money to ensure the safety of all the tourists by hiring officers to patrol not only the entire city but as well as the city of people behind the walls of the Stampede grounds as well as other venues as well (breakfasts, shows etc..) What I personally experienced was Police allowing stampede goers to have thier fun in most ways they see fit, staggering down the road, drunk and or drinking in public, loud noisy behaviour... indeed all part of the tourists having a good time at Stampede. But for an instance imagine one of us using the same behaviour....because we appear homeless we get tickets, as soon as we say our address is the Drop In ... the ticket book comes out. The two sets of laws in this city for homeless and the tourists is incredible. The manner in which the police treat homeless people(myself included) is appauling and I equate it with the behaviour of street thugs. I have personally observed police brutality on friends who were (after the beating) told to get the ___ off their block. I have seen the police take money from homeless people. Anyways I guess I just want people to think about where the homeless go when the tourists come..... The plus side to stampede is that it brings some temp work to an already over burdened labour market... Oh I guess thats not much of a plus for us guys then huh? But I guess thats ok too after all Stampede is a huge cash cow, which I guess is more important than some homeless guy...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
